30 Years of Asking the Questions Others Avoid

Dr. Tim Barclay is a clinical psychologist, professor, and speaker who has spent three decades at the intersection of research, practice, and the real world.

Dr. Tim Barclay, clinical psychologist and professor

For more than three decades, I have devoted my career to understanding the human mind and helping people thrive.

As a licensed clinical psychologist, professor, researcher, and speaker, I've worked at the intersection of psychology, neuroscience, education, and leadership. My experience spans clinical practice, higher education, psychological research, and organizational leadership, giving me a unique perspective on the challenges individuals and communities face today.

Before entering psychology, I served both my country and my community — as a U.S. Army veteran and later as a police officer and criminal investigator. Those experiences shaped my appreciation for resilience, human behavior, and the importance of evidence-based decision-making under pressure. I have also held leadership roles across four distinct fields: the military, law enforcement, clinical psychology, and higher education — a breadth of experience that informs everything I do.

Throughout my career, I've maintained a clinical practice, taught doctoral students in clinical psychology, developed treatment programs, conducted research, and authored scholarly publications on resilience, positive psychology, and emerging approaches to mental health care. I was also a co-creator of the APA accredited PsyD program at Liberty University. I've also received advanced training in neuroscience and non-invasive brain stimulation, reflecting my longstanding interest in combining scientific innovation with compassionate care.

Today, my passion is helping audiences understand the psychology behind today's most pressing challenges — from mental health and resilience to leadership, technology, and cultural change. Whether speaking to business leaders, healthcare professionals, educators, or community organizations, my goal is to translate psychological science into practical wisdom that people can immediately apply in their lives and work.

Philosophy

"Psychology has never been more relevant — or more misunderstood. My job is to close that gap."

— Dr. Tim Barclay

Tim's approach is grounded in the belief that psychological science, properly communicated, has the power to transform how individuals think, how organizations operate, and how society responds to its most pressing challenges. He brings rigor without jargon, challenge without condescension, and evidence without arrogance.
